Biography

David began playing guitar at age 11 and was in several bands throughout high school. After that, he attended Eli Kassner’s Guitar Academy where Liona Boyd also studied. Hazel studied classical voice for 3 years and sang in folk festivals and clubs, placing second in an Ontario-wide contest. David first saw Hazel performing with a trio on City TV. They went on to gain public acclaim in Toronto performing with cover band, The Decades. ….so began the collaboration called Wipperworks. 


Recording

David has a solid background in recording and concert performance winning the AD MUSIC AWARD for “Best Performance By A Studio Musician”. You can hear his distinctive style on the GRAMMY AWARD-winning hit song,  “Black Velvet” and many others… Alannah Myles, Amanda Marshall, Dan Hill, Rita Coolidge, Lulu, Christopher Ward, Robert Priest, Roman Riccio, Eilynn, Karina Wipper and Sarah Smith. He has worked with producers, Dave Tyson, Terry Brown, Kevin Doyle and John Boylan. David and Hazel co-wrote and produced an album for Family Media entitled, “Canadian Heroes & History” which included “Canada By Canoe”, a collaboration with Professor Kirk Wipper, (founder of the Canadian Canoe Museum). 


Television

David and Hazel co-wrote and produced music  for 66 episodes of TVOntario’s Pro-Literacy series, BOOKMICE (Won First – Gabriel Awards, Unda USA, Won Silver – New York Film Festival, Won Gold – Cairo International Film Festival, Special Achievement – Alliance For Children & Television Award Canada.


Film

Won Silver HUGO AWARD & Runner up for ACADEMY AWARD SHORT FILMS Pen Densham / John Watson, “Life Times Nine”.  Won GOLDEN SHEAF AWARD Wolf Ruck Productions, “Winning”.
